Lent - making a prayer quilt

Each Fridays in Lent 
6  March 09 to 10 April (Good Friday)
2.30 – 4pm in the church

A small group joined together in making two prayer quilts every Friday afternoon in Lent.  As well as making the quilt the group shared in prayer and fellowship and, as an expression of this, the quilts were given away at the end. The making of prayer quilts originated from churches in the United States.

The group was led by Roz Johnson, a member of the church and a quilt-maker.  Roz helped each person to make a small square, teaching simple techniques of needlework.   This was not about being an expert in needlework but rather about creating something with others to be given away at the end.  Each session of making the prayer quilt began and ended with prayer. 

As part of our Good Friday service, the group made the finishing touches to the prayer quilt by tying knots and saying a prayer each time for the person who will receive it.  .
